1. Waimea Canyon
This road trip is magnificent with all the varied scenery on offer. The drive winds through the beautiful red and green Waimea Canyon, past iron-rich red rocks and rushing mountain streams. Time permitting, there are several short and long hikes in this area to enjoy as well. The views are best enjoyed on a clear day.

2. Kōkeʻe State Park and Kalalau Lookout
A must do for the spectacular views of the Napali Coast. There are some steep hikes in this area to enjoy more of the beautiful scenery.

3. Kalalau Trail
No matter how far along this trail you are able to hike, you are guaranteed to see spectacular views of the Napali Coast. If you walk as far as the beach and waterfall, you will come to some of the secluded areas of the Napali Coast.

4. Keʻe Beach
This beach is stunning for walking around, sunbathing, snorkeling and more. You need a reservation, for parking or for the shuttle, to enter Hāʻena State Park.

5. Hanalei Bay
One of the most beautiful spots we have been to. The beach is perfect for beginners to learn surfing in the summer. Swimming in the calm, warm waters, jumping off the pier, or just enjoying the view of the gorgeous green cliffs against the Pacific Ocean are incredible ways to spend some time here.

6. Nourish Hanalei for açaí bowls and the views
Our entire family enjoyed the fresh food with a Hawaiian flair. Parking is limited, as are the opening hours. However, once here, the views of Hanalei Bay, the mountains and the ocean, with plantations and houses below, are an amazing accompaniment to the food.

7. Napali Coast boat ride
Even though the ocean can be rough close to the Napali Coast, seeing it from the sea is a definite must do. Opt for a sunset cruise or a snorkel cruise for even more fun.

8. Queen’s Bath
The hike down here is moderately challenging, but the views more than make up for the effort. Use caution if swimming in the Queen’s Bath, as the waves can be rough. The views of the ocean, mountains and sea-worn cliffs are awesome.

9. Secret Beach near Kīlauea town
We especially enjoyed this beach for its isolation. There were maybe two other people here when we visited. The beach is long, with rough waves and soft sand. A quiet walk along this beach with a view of the Kīlauea Lighthouse makes you feel miles away from everything. This beach is not recommended for swimming.

10. Kauai Coffee Company
It was great to see this working coffee plantation and learn more about the coffee culture of Hawaii. We bought some handmade toiletries as well.
